I never thought I'd be selling this bike. But, as many of us know, sometimes what we WANT in life doesn't quite mesh up with what we NEED. Therefore, I am forced to sell my baby: a flawlessly restored (mechanically) 1978 Ducati 900 Bevel. First of all, this is NOT your run of the mill vintage bike.
This is not something I found in a barn and then cranked over and started riding; oil dripping and gears grinding. Nor did I merely change the plugs, tires, and pads and start driving down the block. This bike was rebuilt by one of the few men in the United States who can completely - and I mean COMPLETELY - strip apart a vintage Ducati and then restore it to mechanical perfection.
This man was featured in Motorcycle Classics Magazine. A lot of us are handy with a wrench, but not many of us are featured in magazines! That article showcased his 1973 750 Sport that HE restored HIMSELF and then sold for $40,000!!! (I included a few photos showing that article) Every single nut and bolt on this bike was taken out, tolerances were checked, and then ONLY after everything passed inspection it was meticulously put back together. This was a complete 'frame-off' restoration. NOS pistons were fit by hand, using clay, and then machined to run perfectly in THIS engine. Rockers and valves were machined to run perfectly in THIS engine.
I have video footage of the rebuild process that I can provide to the buyer if they would like. The goal of THIS restoration was to make me a bike that was dead nuts reliable.
I told him I wanted a bike that I could drive everyday; that would start up every time I needed it; that didn't 'tap' or 'click' or drip oil everywhere. I wanted a bike that I could grow old with and enjoy riding for the rest of my adult life. And that is exactly what he built me! Over 200 labor-hours were spent meticulously rebuilding this bike's engine with the love and care that she deserves. Again, nothing was simply 'bolted on.' No generic part was used. Every nut, bolt, ring, piston, rocker, shim, etc was sourced from vintage Ducati parts, then fit by hand, specs were checked, and if it didn't pass spec then it was machined to the proper tolerances.
As a result, you won't find a better-running 900 Bevel engine than what you see for sale here! Here is an 'Almost-Complete List' of the work done (I'm sure I'm forgetting some things): Sonic Clean Engine / Carbs / TransRebuild Carbs (R.152m, 60 Pilot)Rebuild & Balance Crankshaft (DRD)Complete rebuild of both Heads (Bevels timed and checked for fitment; new valve sleeves; valve work; rocker tolerances checked; etc)Machine clearance on closing rockersShimmed Lower Case (with Kickstarter AND Electric Start!)The Starter Motor in amazing condition! (usually they are all burnt out and the wiring is bad.
Category - Engine - Posted Over 1 Month Sometimes what we WANT in Life doesn’t quite sync up (bevel pun) with what we NEED in Life. As a result, I am forced to sell one of my “babies.” A beautifully restored 1978 Ducati Darmah.
This bike was sold to me (Milwaukee, WI) from a Ferrari restoration shop in California. The original Owner's Manual has a sticker on it from 'Sonny Angel Motorcycles, National City, CA.' She has never seen bad weather (as far as I know), and she has always been garaged since I bought her in 2006. If you’re looking at this Ad, there is a very good chance you know about Ducati Bevels.
About their cool factor, rarity, and exceptional GROWL! As a result of their rarity, very few people are around today who can completely strip-down and then rebuild one of these engines. Powder-coating and re-chroming are one thing, but blueprinting and rebuilding a bevel engine to maximize its potential is truly a thing of Mechanical Beauty!
These old Bevel engines are what can be considered “High Maintenance” machines, and after about 40 years of aging, nearly all of them deserve a complete rebuild. Lucky for you, this bike has already had it done!! And by one of the few men who can do it perfectly!! This bike’s engine was completely stripped down and restored to better-than-factory specs. She has over-sized pistons and now puts down more torque and horsepower than even when she was born in '78.
Even if you had a time machine and went back to 1978 to purchase this bike new, it would run better today than it did back then. An example of the care put into this engine rebuild is that the over-sized pistons were fit by hand, using clay, and then shaped to run optimally in THIS engine. Allowing for optimal compression while still clearing the complicated internals of the bevel heads. Nothing was simply purchased and then dropped in; ALL fitment was done by hand, perfectly, to at least ‘Factory Spec,' and in most cases, to 'BETTER-THAN-FACTORY-SPEC!’ 200-hours Labor were spent meticulously rebuilding this bike’s engine with the love and care it deserves! Here is an ‘Almost-Complete List’ of the work done to get this engine to better-than-stock specs! Sonic Clean Engine / Carbs / TransRebuild Carbs (R.152m, 60 Pilot)Rebuild & Balance Crankshaft (DRD) Complete rebuild of both Heads (Bevels timed and checked for fitment; new valve sleeves; valve work; rocker tolerances checked; etc) Machine clearance on closing rockersShimmed Lower Case (with Kickstarter AND Electric Start!) Motorcycles Sport DX0 DX1. Category - Engine 1,078 cc Posted Over 1 Month hi all, make me an offer - i found another bike i want to buy!:) i test rode a hypermotard 1100 evo sp, and bought one last winter. It lives w/a '78 duc darmah, a '95 buell s2 making 100whp/95ft-lbs torque, modified '00 suzuki dr650 motard. I've put 2000 miles on the evo sp, and i'm not feeling it like i'd hoped. I thought i'd be wanting to ride it so much more than my other bikes, but it's not happening. Some days i'm loving it; other days i wonder what am i doing on this thing?
It may be just a bit too 'hyper' for me - i think it's aptly named. So, it's for sale. I bought a new 6.4g ca cycleworks tank kit, full stainless mivv exhaust, and rapidbike evo fuel module; never installed.
($2225) here's the basics: -16k miles (i am still riding it); 4k miles on dealer rebuilt motor, by ducati of dallas -ducati paid for parts, but not labor. The original owner decided he couldn't afford the labor, so he sold it to a ducati/dallas employee.
He kept it for a couple thousand miles, and i bought it from him; uship got it to me for $300. He needed money for a house remodel.
I have all the receipts from ducati of dallas. It runs great.
